The search for the next head coach of Dartmouth men’s basketball ended Wednesday when acting Director of Athletics Bob Ceplikas ’78 announced the hiring of Golden State Warriors scout Paul Cormier. This will be Cormier’s second stint as Dartmouth head coach — as Cormier previously led the Big Green from 1984-1991, going 87-95 for a .478 winning percentage.

Cormier succeeds Terry Dunn, who compiled a record of 47-103 prior to announcing his resignation before Dartmouth’s game against Harvard University on Jan. 9. Assistant coach Mark Graupe served as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, going 2-12 in his 14 games at the helm.

Cormier comes to Dartmouth after a year spent as a scout for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. While with the Warriors, Cormier scouted Eastern Conference opponents and collegiate players. Cormier also spent time with several other NBA organizations, including the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies and New Jersey Nets.

Prior to his time in the NBA, Cormier served as the head coach at Fairfield University for seven years, going 86-111 while earning one conference title and one NCAA tournament berth. In 1997, as a 16 seed, Fairfield lost a hard fought 82-74 game to the University of North Carolina, the number one seed in the East Region. Another number 16 seed has only come within 10 points of a number one seed once since that time.
