Over 1,600 students submitted early decision applications for the Dartmouth Class of 2014 — a record high and a 3-percent increase over the number submitted last year, the College announced in a statement late Tuesday. The number of applications increased by about 13 percent for the Class of 2013.

The College will accept approximately one-third of the incoming class — about 400 students — through the early decision program.

Dartmouth also received a record number of early decision applications from international students, a trend Dean of Admissions Maria Laskaris attributed in the press release to the appointment of College President Jim Yong Kim. Additionally, there was a 5-percent increase in the number of students of color who applied.

Approximately 50 percent of early decision applicants indicated that they will apply for financial aid, according to the release.
