The Tuck School of Business was ranked eighth in U.S. News and World Report's annual ranking of graduate schools, which was released on Thursday. Tuck slipped down one spot from its position last year. The business school rankings are based on a quality assessment by peers and recruiters, graduate placement success and student selectivity, according to the report. Dartmouth Medical School was ranked 22nd for primary care and 35th for research after being ranked 13th and 31st, respectively, in those two categories last year. The Thayer School of Engineering was ranked 54th, up three spots from last year.
Trinity College in Connecticut has come under scrutiny after administrators allegedly attempted to use a $9-million fund to pursue projects other than those outlined by the original donor, Shelby Cullom Davis, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. Davis, an investment banker, gave the money to Trinity in 1976 to promote the study of conservative economic ideas, but Trinity's president, James Jones Jr., has asked Davis' living family members if the funds can be diverted to finance scholarships for international students, The Chronicle reported. Professor Gerald Gunderson, whose position is endowed by the fund, has asked the Connecticut attorney general's office to investigate whether Jones' plan violates Davis' intent, even though Davis' family has endorsed the proposed new use of funds. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal warned that colleges must not stray from donors' original intent even amid economic struggles, The Chronicle reported.
