Hodes ‘72 to seek Gregg’s Senate seat in 2010

Rep. Paul Hodes '72, D-N.H., announced today that he will seek election to the seat vacated by former Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., who was tapped to serve as commerce secretary on Tuesday. Gov. John Lynch, D-N.H., appointed Bonnie Newman, a Republican, to serve out the remainder of Gregg's term, but said that Newman will not seek re-election in 2010.
"I want to continue my service to the people of New Hampshire and continue to stand up for middle class families," Hodes said in a statement released today. "I will continue to work every day for the people of New Hampshire's second district and I will work in the future to give New Hampshire the representation it deserves in the United States Senate."
Hodes, who began his second term in Congress this January, first won election to the House in 2006 after he defeated six-term incumbent Rep. Charlie Bass '74, R-N.H., with 53 percent of the vote.
After graduating from Dartmouth, Hodes attended Boston College Law School. He returned to New Hampshire and worked for the state attorney general and in private practice before running for Congress.
