The number of early decision applications to Dartmouth rose by 12.5 percent this year, an "all-time high," according to Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Maria Laskaris '84. The 1,571 students who applied early decision for the class of 2013 is the largest number of early decision applicants on record, Laskaris said.

As the fall winds down, and the College's Greek organizations begin to host end-of-term formal events, three popular event venues in the Upper Valley have prepared for an influx of Dartmouth students. And despite past problems involving intoxicated students and underage drinking, event venues in the Upper Valley continue to open their doors to College formal events.

Robots made from Lego building blocks attempted to stop global warming at the Thayer School of Engineering last Saturday when 120 elementary and middle-school students competed in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Lego League tournament. The tournament, organized by the Dartmouth Lego League, drew 11 teams of students from New Hampshire and Vermont to compete for seven chances to advance to state-level competitions.

Anxious sophomore students nearing the deadline to choose a major are getting an extra hand from the College this year. The Upperclass Deans Office hosted a series of events last week designed to inform students about academic opportunities at the College. The week-long pilot program, titled "Deciphering Your Dartmouth," featured a variety of events, including first-year seminar reunions and a personality workshop that demonstrated how results on a Myers-Briggs personality test can correlate to career choices.
