Clinton pushes N.H. to support Democrats

Senator Hillary Clinton, former 2008 Democratic presidential candidate, returned to New Hampshire on Tuesday to rally last-minute support for the Democratic ticket. At a rally in Manchester, Clinton called on New Hampshire voters, who gave her a primary victory in January, to continue to work hard to elect presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama and former N.H. Governor Jeanne Shaheen, candidate for U.S. Senate. Shaheen introduced Clinton at the event, held at Southern New Hampshire University. More »

Redman takes questions, solicits feedback on AMP

Dean of Residential Life Martin Redman solicited feedback on the new Alcohol Management Program proposal at the weekly general meeting of the Student Assembly Tuesday night. If adopted AMP will replace the Social Event Management Procedures, the College's current alcohol policy. The proposal was released last Tuesday by Dean of the College Tom Crady. More »

Chittick '70 fights AIDS in central Africa

Ignoring U.S. State Department warnings that classify parts of central Africa as "dangerous and unstable," John Chittick '70 and Jimmy Kircher '10 will travel to Kenya this month to begin an AIDS prevention walk in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. The pair aims to promote HIV awareness by training teenagers to become educators within their communities. More »

Vainio, Native American doctor, speaks about life, racism

Working as a paramedic in Minnesota, Native American doctor Arne Vainio once rushed a diabetic Native American woman to the emergency room for immediate medical assistance. According to Vainio, the ER physician looked the patient over and dismissed her as "just a goddamned drunk Indian." Experiences like this inspired Vainio to become a doctor and fight racism and discrimination, he said at a speech to about 20 attendees in Moore Hall Tuesday. More »

Study finds adults, children react differently to allergens

A research team led by Kathryn Zug '84, a dermatologist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, discovered that children and adults are equally likely to have allergic contact dermatitis, but react to different allergens. The study will be a useful guide for dermatologists testing for allergies in eczema patients, Zug, also a Dartmouth Medical School professor, said. More »
