Alcohol policy to be replaced winter 2009

A new alcohol policy that will give organizations more discretion when holding social events with alcohol is scheduled to replace the Social Event Management Procedures in winter 2009, according to documents obtained by The Dartmouth on Wednesday. The plan will most likely follow the Alcohol Management Policy, a set of guidelines created by a committee of Dartmouth students and administrators and finalized at the end of Spring term, according to Dean of the College Tom Crady. Forbes ranks Dartmouth 127th

Citing relatively high levels of student debt and dissatisfaction with teaching quality, Forbes.com rated Dartmouth the 127th best college in America on Thursday in the publication's first foray into university rankings. Dartmouth, which received the lowest ranking in the Ivy League, was an exception among small colleges, which were generally rated highly in the report. More »

GE CEO declares, 'Green is green'

While politicians continue to bicker about the legitimacy and effects of global warming, companies are beginning to realize the enormous profit potential of "going green," CEO of General Electric Jeffrey Immelt '78 told an audience of more than 300 Upper Valley residents Wednesday morning at Spaulding Auditorium in the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Dartmouth's new program aims to lessen fuel burden

In an effort to ease burdens on staff and faculty, the College announced a new commuter initiative on Thursday that includes a van pool pilot program and the introduction of Zipcars, a car-sharing program. These measures, which grew out of a June 25 employee meeting about commuting-related issues, aim to make traveling to the College more affordable and convenient. More »

Economy does not affect housing

This bucks the national trend as many colleges and universities across the country are facing an increasing demand by students for on-campus housing as off-campus options become less desirable, according to an article in the Boston Globe Monday.
