Pres. search kicks off with initial meeting

The search committee for the College’s next president discussed input previously gathered from the Dartmouth community at its first meeting, which was held at Dartmouth on July 22 and 23. ORL acquires houses for sororities

Two College-owned houses will be renovated this year for future use by Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Phi sororities. The houses, located at 17 and 26 East Wheelock Street, should be ready by Fall 2009 and will ideally house 15 to 20 women each, according to Dean of Residential Life Martin Redman. This move will provide permanent housing for AZD, which vacated its previous physical plant in June due to the planned return of the property owner, Beta Theta Pi fraternity, this fall. More »

Rt. 4 bridge is too weak for big trucks, officials say

WEST LEBANON, N.H. — The Route 4 bridge across the Connecticut River has been closed to heavy trucks following significant deterioration of the structure. Peer group may affect obesity, study says

Dieters may start examining their choice of friends in addition to their choice of food, according to a recent study co-authored by Dartmouth economics professor David Blanchflower. The study revealed that perceptions about weight and weight’s effect on happiness are linked to a person’s body mass index, a measure of weight scaled by height, relative to that of his or her peers.
