DHMC ranked among top hospitals in nation

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center was recently ranked among the country’s best hospitals for cancer treatment, gynecology and ear, nose and throat-related medical care in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2008 report of America’s Best Hospitals. After a review of 5,435 centers nationwide, DHMC placed at number 44 out of 170 hospitals chosen as the nation’s leading facilities for cancer care, and was ranked 38th for gynecology and 39th for ENT care. Prof. discovers gene for viable plants

More mothers worldwide may soon be able to order their children to finish their vegetables, as Dartmouth biology researchers have identified a plant gene that is key to growing healthy and nutritious plants. The discovery furthers scientists’ understanding of how plants use iron, especially in iron-deficient soil. More »

Consumer health site lets patients choose best care

The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice is teaming up with Consumers Union to launch a web tool which will rank nearly 3,000 hospitals online. The rankings were originally published in the organization’s July magazine Consumer Reports in an article entitled “Too Much Treatment,” which highlighted the wide disparity in hospital’s treatment and patient outcome throughout the country. Streetfest features local vendors, eateries

Jugglers, live music and local vendors greeted students as they walked down Main Street on Saturday during the 29th annual Hanover Streetfest. Approximately 100 vendors participated in this year’s fair, according to Sharyn Amberger, events coordinator for the Downtown Marketing Alliance, which organizes the event each year. More »
