Andy Harvard, director of the Outdoor Programs Office, stepped down on Friday, according to an e-mail sent by acting Dean of Student Life Joe Cassidy. Several students and alumni associated with the Dartmouth Outing Club, however, said they were confused about the suddenness of Harvard's departure and believed that Harvard likely did not step down voluntarily. Earl Jette, who served in the position before he retired eight years ago, is serving as interim director during the search for Harvard's replacement.

Forty-two hundred students and community members came out Saturday to walk, run and bike to fight cancer in the 27th Annual Prouty Century Bike Ride and Challenge Walk. The event raised $2 million this year, the most in its history, for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

A majority of the Moosilauke Advisory Committee has come to the conclusion that the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge needs to be replaced after three years of discussion. The committee, however, which advises the director of the Outdoor Programs Office, has no binding authority.

While most Dartmouth juniors are spending their summers inside investment banks or research labs, Jack Sisson '09 is rollerblading across the United States. Sisson embarked from Yorktown, Va. on June 10, and will travel 3,800 miles to San Francisco, Calif. raising money and awareness for Action Against Hunger, a New York-based charity combating world hunger.

Christopher Hollis received the maximum sentence of 24 years in California State prison on Friday for fatally shooting Meleia Willis-Starbuck '07 in 2005. Hollis had been convicted this past April of voluntary manslaughter and various lesser charges for his role in the shooting.

On Saturday evening, July 12, Hanover Police, in conjunction with other area police forces and the New Hampshire State Liquor Division, setup four sobriety checkpoints in Hanover. Officers checked a total of 441 vehicles and gave 18 drivers field sobriety tests. This resulted in one arrest for driving under the influence and four other arrests on a variety of charges.
