Shaheen talks of science, policy

Police arrest three in Bagel Basement Friday

Local Hanover restaurant Bagel Basement was closed because of health concerns by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services early Friday morning after Hanover Police discovered five intoxicated teenagers asleep on the premises. After apprehending the teenagers, Hanover Police contacted Hanover Deputy Health Inspector Carolyn Murray who, in conjunction with her state-level counterpart, determined that the local restaurant should remain closed until the completion of a full health inspection. Uncle could face death penalty in Bennett case

Michael Jacques could face the death penalty if convicted on federal kidnapping charges related to the disappearance and subsequent death of his niece, Brooke Bennett, a 12-year-old Braintee, Vt. resident. Both Jacques and Raymond Gagnon, Bennett’s former stepfather, made preliminary appearances in federal court in Burlington, Vt. on Monday. Gagnon, who resides in Texas, has been charged with obstruction of justice in the case. Both men will be detained until trial. More »

College tests internet phone-call technology

Dartmouth Computing Services has begun testing a new technology that will allow users to make calls from cell phones over the College’s wireless network free of charge, according to David Bucciero, director of Technical Services. Although testing is currently limited to Computing Services employees, it may be opened to a few student users in coming days. More »

Police Blotter

June 22, 3:26 a.m., Tuck Mall Hanover Police responded to an ambulance call regarding a female with possible alcohol poisoning. Officers apprehended the 20-year-old intoxicated student outside Gile Residence Hall. She told police that she had drunk “quite a bit” earlier that evening and had subsequently vomited and called her boyfriend, who called Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. DHMC then called for the ambulance. The female’s blood alcohol content was determined to be .162. The student must appear in court on July 22, unless she qualifies for the alcohol diversion program.
