Summer T.V. shows entertain, enthrall with new seasons

A common notion of boob tube viewership is that in the interminable, sticky-humid dogs days of summer, good television programming goes to die. Unfortunately, for the most part, this conception’s a true one. However, fellow bored and semi-lucid sophomores, there’s still some entertaining if not quality stuff to be found in the sun-smoldered wreckage of what is otherwise a completely throwaway season for T.V. Take my word for it: whether you’re a bare-shirted guy or a shiny-legged gal, forego a sprawl on the Green and spend an hour or two soaking up the mind-numbing, Technicolor joy of NBC, VH1 and Bravo. Granted, in all likelihood a 40-inch Samsung will not give you a sexy tan (if you’re too far away from it), but when you think about it, that Samsung also won’t give you a suspicious new mole underneath your navel. Hood and Hop explore African culture and identity in Festival

Though recent flash thunderstorms may put a hold on outdoor activities, the Summer Arts Festival: AFRICAS brings the color and vibrancy of the season of summer to days spent indoors. Organized by the Leslie Center for the Humanities, the 2008 Summer Festival combines events from the Dartmouth Film Society, the Hopkins Center and the Hood Museum to present a multi-faceted and emotive two-month celebration of African art and culture.
