Presidential search solicits input

Students and staff shared their expectations for Dartmouth's next president in separate, public forums on Monday with Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ed Haldeman '70 and trustee Al Mulley '70, who will chair the presidential search committee. The trustees met with approximately 45 students and 40 staff attendees to solicit input, which the Board will use to help craft a statement on leadership criteria and to make the presidential search process more transparent, Haldeman said. Former SA candidates criticize EPAC efforts

With ballots cast and the next Student Assembly president and vice president determined, former candidates are speaking out against the Election Planning and Advisory Committee's management of last week's elections. EPAC failed to accommodate candidates who were off campus in the winter or spring, sufficiently advertise the elections and communicate effectively with the candidates, former candidates claimed. Byron, Edwards confront partisanship

Correction appended. Former members of Congress Rep. Mickey Edwards, R- Okla., and Rep. Beverly Byron, D-Md., strongly criticized the recent growth of partisanship both within Congress and throughout the country to a crowd of approximately 30 students in the Rockefeller Center on Monday. Harkening back 15 years, they spoke nostalgically about their time in the House of Representatives when members of both parties worked together to pass beneficial legislation, they said. More »

Inter-faith housing planned for fall

A new inter-faith community residence option will allow 11 students to explore issues of faith and religion within their residence halls beginning next fall. Two universities were forced to suspend campus activities over the weekend after threatening graffiti was found at both campuses, The New York Times reported. According to police, graffiti found in three restrooms at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., warned of violence on Monday, prompting school officials to cancel classes and student activities until Monday, and to send as many students as possible home until the school resumes operation. A similar string of threats, also describing attacks on Monday, caused St. Xavier University in Chicago, Ill., to dismiss students indefinitely. The Times cited the Feb. 14 shooting of students at Northern Illinois University, in which five were killed, as the main reason for caution. More »
