College President James Wright will step down in June 2009 concluding an 11-year tenure as president, the College announced Monday morning. Wright, the 16th president of the College, has worked at Dartmouth in various positions since 1969.

As College President James Wright prepares to leave Dartmouth after 40 years at the College, he will be remembered for his attempts to expand social and residential life, as well as for his improvements to financial aid and campus infrastructure. In recent years, his tenure as Dartmouth’s 16th president has also been marked by alumni controversy and changes to the College’s governance structure.

Plans to re-establish the Dartmouth chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an African-American organization, have raised questions about the impact the sorority will have on diversity in the Greek system and whether or not it will alter the balance between male and female social spaces on campus.

The Association of Alumni’s lawsuit against Dartmouth will go to trial following the failure of the College’s motion to dismiss the case. The court ruled in favor of the Association on all counts considered in the motion in Grafton County Superior Court last Friday.

While Student Assembly is planning to expand its web team and launch additional computer-related services, members of the Kiewit Computing Services staff are interested in streamlining the maintainance of the Assembly-created resources that already exist. These services, which include the course review guide, telephone wake-up and the textbook exchange, are hosted on Kiewit Computing hardware and are maintained by students no longer affiliated with the College.
