Kevin Bacon will be given the Dartmouth Film Award on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with a private afterparty for tribute ticket-holders at Alpha Delta fraternity. In preparation for Bacon, The Dartmouth's Arts staff shares its favorite moments from his career:

"I don't care what the critics have said about 'Death Sentence' (2007); it was a good movie and it wouldn't have been without Kevin Bacon. Let's face it, though he isn't ripped like the action-superstars of yesteryears, he's a badass. And when he finally starts smacking gangsters around, you can't help but cheer him on. I haven't truly enjoyed an action flick like that since the early '90s."

"Whenever I see the posters advertising Kevin Bacon around campus I only think about 'Apollo 13' (1995). I watched that movie at least once a month for several years. I doubt this is his best role or his most famous, but it's hard to imagine him without astronaut garb."

"My favorite Kevin Bacon movie is 'Animal House' (1978) because it never gets old."

-- Lauren Dowling '11

"I first heard of Kevin Bacon when I was very young. I had just seen 'Footloose' (1984) on Broadway, and I heard that it had also come out as a film starring Kevin Bacon. While Broadway is a hard act to follow, it was hard to resist dancing and singing with the movie."

-- Jessica Krug '11

"My first memory of Kevin Bacon was in the film 'Apollo 13,' in which he played the suave Jack Swigert; Bacon's role stood out to me because of the way his character captured the attention of every scene, while maintaining the riveting and suspenseful drama of the failed Apollo mission."

-- Rahul Malik '11

"My best friend back in high school was obsessed with 'Footloose,' and seeing as it is the perfect slumber party fare, Ren McCormick will always hold a special place in my tap dancing heart."

-- Sarah Frostenson '11
