Crash in Vt. sends 9 to hospital

Eight members of New York City’s Stuyvesant High School track team and their coach were taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, one by helicopter, after their van ran into the median on Interstate 91 just south of Hartford, Vt., on Saturday. The group was traveling to Hanover for the Dartmouth Relays, a three-day track event for college and high school students hosted by the College. More »

Winter rush introduces new ranking process

Winter term sorority rush, altered by a new ranking system and a shortened four day process, began Tuesday evening. Eighty-nine women are registered to participate in rush, and each of the College’s seven sororities is expected to accept between 10 and 15 new members. More »

All-male group discusses media’s masculine stereotypes

Eleven Dartmouth men talked about the media’s portrayal of pickup lines and fatherhood at the Men’s Group discussion, “No School like the Old School: Dating Represented by the Media,” in Dartmouth Hall on Tuesday. Participants, who described the all-male atmosphere as “open” and “judgement-free,” used clips from the movies “Swingers,” “Wayne’s World,” and “Office Space,” in their discussion of male stereotypes. New library exhibit celebrates International Polar Year

In honor of the International Polar Year, a year-long push for research and exploration of the earth’s poles, Baker-Berry Library has installed a two-part exhibit that explores the history of Dartmouth research in the Arctic. “Polar Connections: Dartmouth and the Earth’s Cold Regions,” which will remain in the library until Jan. 31, has replaced Wenda Gu’s controversial art installation, “the green house.” More »

Koop urges doctors to take personal approach

At a symposium on healthcare and service, former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop ‘37 stressed the importance of putting the interests of patients first and reaching out to others to an audience, which included many medical students, in the Great Hall of the Thayer School of Engineering on Tuesday evening.
