Clinton, McCain take N.H. in tight primary race

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., pulled off a close victory over Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in New Hampshire’s Democratic primary this Tuesday, defying polls that had predicted a decisive Obama victory. On the Republican side, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., finished in first place with 37 percent of the vote. The victory represents a dramatic turnaround for McCain, who finished fourth in last week’s Iowa caucuses and whose campaign several political strategists had declared defunct in recent months. Vox Clamantis shuttles student voters to polls

Student voters in Hanover were eager to head to the polls for Tuesday’s New Hampshire primaries, according to representatives of Vote Clamantis, a non-partisan group. Millan wins NASA research grant

Dartmouth physics and astronomy professor Robyn Millan received a $9.3 million grant from NASA this December for her research project on the Van Allen Belts. Millan’s research aims to prove that plasma waves cause the scattering of particles into the earth’s atmosphere. More »

Dartmouth group helps developement, healthcare in Nicaragua

Fair presents support staff to faculty

Representatives from 34 Dartmouth student support offices, such as Computer Services and the Research, Writing and Information Technology center, set up displays in Baker Main Hall yesterday for the first-ever Teaching and Learning Fair, intended to demonstrate how the offices can collaborate with faculty to improve education. Swayne receives fellowship to complete book on composer

The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded a year-long fellowship to associate professor of music Steve Swayne to complete a book about 20th-century composer William Schuman. Swayne was one of 94 applicants to receive the honor among the 1,195-person applicant pool. More »
