On Friday night at Dartmouth’s Karl Michael Pool, the Big Green men’s and women’s swimming teams turned in high-scoring efforts against Boston College, but only the women could hold off the competition and come up with a win. Despite swimming well all night, the men dropped a heartbreaking final relay to lose the meet.

Saturday night, the Dartmouth men’s hockey team traveled to Boston to face ECAC Hockey and Ivy League foe Harvard in its only game of the weekend. Although the team fought hard and its defense performed admirably, the Big Green was unable to make its efforts count, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Crimson, who currently hold second place in the league.

Clutch shooting and ball control were key themes that helped propel the Big Green to its two game-winning streak going into last Saturday’s game at Stony Brook (1-6). However, this time Dartmouth had trouble shooting the ball all night and could not take care of the basketball, losing control of the game early and falling, 70-43.

After a tough loss to Harvard last week, the women’s hockey team went on to sweep its weekend games against Union (1-13-0, 0-6-0 ECACHL) and Rennselaer (6-7-2, 1-4-1 ECACHL), improving its overall record to 9-2-1, 7-2-0 ECACHL.

Last year, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team got off to a slow start but turned its season around after defeating Northeastern and going on to compile a winning record and a second-place finish in the Ivy League. The Big Green was determined to mirror this result this year, as co-captain Kristen Craft ‘08 stayed on the court through the end of the contest despite a bloody nose, but Dartmouth was denied by Northeastern in an entertaining game, 57-50.

Ice Hockey
Mike Devine surrendered just one goal in a losing effort at Harvard Saturday evening. Despite stopping 32 shots on the night, Devine finished with the loss. A third-period goal by Harvard’s Mike Taylor midway through the frame proved to be the difference, as the Crimson defeated the Big Green 1-0.
