His green-and-white striped socks are pulled up over his green-and-white striped wind pants, which are layered underneath a pair of athletic shorts — one leg green, the other white. On the back of his white t-shirt, in green letters, is the slogan: “One College. One Tradition. Victory.” Green leis adorn his neck, and a green cowbell hangs from a Dartmouth ribbon. His cheeks are painted with white and green stripes. A green bandana holds back a shoulder-length wig — one half dyed white, the other green. He is screaming. And screaming.

The Dartmouth sailing team has found mixed results over the past few weeks of action. The highlight of the last two weekends came on October 14, when Dartmouth was able to take home third place, its best finish of the year, at home in the Captain Hurst Bowl regatta.

This past weekend proved to be a surreal one for lovers of sport in Boston. Besides the Red Sox’s clinching of the American League Championship Series and the Patriots’ demolition of the Miami Dolphins, the weather was perfect for all outdoor athletics, from high school football to what is probably the most prestigious rowing event this side of the Atlantic Ocean: The Head of the Charles Regatta. The Dartmouth Crew teams sent five crews to the event with the men’s lightweight eights crew finishing the best of the lot, in tenth place out of 28 boats.
