The quirky, left-of-center obsessions of my adolescence are varied and abnormally numerous. Among others, they included (rather, include) France, IKEA, Vespas and, chief among them, Elizabeth I. The Virgin Queen, Good Queen Bess, call her what you may — she was an unexpected heroine of mine, and the focus of a fascination that should have been directed towards something like baseball, playing cards or learning what a carburetor is.

You have probably passed the Jaffe-Freide and Strauss Gallery in the Hopkins Center during the past week, and if you stopped to glance in, you were probably perplexed by the triangular arrangement of printed flags that cover a large portion of the gallery’s floor. Named “Cross Currents,” this display is one of four creations by Dartmouth’s Artist in Residence, Christopher Cozier, which can currently be seen on campus.

2 DAYS IN PARIS
“2 Days in Paris” is a romantic comedy dipped in acid. It’s about deceitful, self-absorbed people who say nasty, horrible things to each other. Which is not to say that the film isn’t absolutely adorable — just don’t go in expecting the sort of sentimental pink fluff promised by the trailer, the title and the effervescent soundtrack. If you’re looking for that sort of thing, I believe “The Jane Austen Book Club” is still playing in the next theatre over. — A.J. Fox
