Deceived by my own naivete, I once thought of Dartmouth as the utopia that many of us craved to become part of when leaving high school. I somewhat foolishly believed that human corruption withered away as it entered the community of this idyllic Ivy League school. Dartmouth, to me, represented intellect and acceptance, and I decidedly believed it to be a little more "perfect" than the real world. I did not realize that Dartmouth, just as any other place, has its pros and cons. I had yet to learn that imperfections and defects can be distinctly different, and that it is up to us to decide what to include into our own community.

I find it necessary to express my extreme digust, displeasure and disappointment at your choice to print the obscene and borderline-pornographic article "Aurora's Guide to Eating Out" (Oct. 5) I feel that there was no redeeming value to that piece of work, except (perhaps) publication in Playboy or some similar magazine. The Dartmouth has always prided itself on having the highest quality editorial content and I feel that this article was well below the standards of our beloved paper. I am embarrased that this article was ever printed in a publication that parents, alumni, professors and prominent members of the community read on a daily basis.

I have to confess, I don't open The Dartmouth very much, but I'm glad to have missed "Aurora's Guide to Eating Out" in its first rendition (Oct. 5). When I read it online, even without the picture, it made me wince. It wasn't so much the content as the attitude; I could have done a search on Google and come up with more detailed and exact information than that on the female anatomy, all while remaining focused only on Homo sapiens.

I note that the statement put out by the Alumni Council states, amongst other things, that "the lawsuit is against the will of the majority of alumni" ("Message to students fakes alumni address," Oct. 9). How interesting! I challenge the trustees to put this to a vote by the alumni to find out what the majority want.More »
