Out of Bounds

Until proven guilty

To the Editor: In her guest column ("Questions for Theta Delt," Aug. 7), Laurel Peak asserts that to report Kappa's accusation of harassment by Theta Delt is deplorable because it shifts the onus of blame to Kappa, as the accuser, rather than to Theta Delt, as the alleged perpetrator. She is entirely incorrect. Americans accept the notion of "innocent until proven guilty," and the article to which she refers ("Kappas accuse Theta Delt of harassment," Aug. 3) reflects this approach in its headline, as opposed to what Ms. Peak has "heard and read," not "seen." A house in hiding

To the Editor: In response to Sean Nicholson("Theta Delts, Not Theta Delt," Aug. 10), I'm both confused and I admit, a bit amused by his article. He claims that the house should not be blamed as a single entity, yet he apologizes on behalf of the house. If Theta Delt would like to blame individuals and not the house then why aren't these individuals writing letters of apology to the campus? Oh, right I forgot that Phil Killian said "the house functions as a unit" and that "a lot of guys were really drunk" and "might not have remembered what happened." Some very mixed messages coming from this house, and they all conveniently protect anyone from really accepting blame. More »
