Attempt for Tubestock on Storrs Pond rejected

A proposal to hold Tubestock at a new location -- Storrs Pond -- has been denied by the Hanover Improvement Society. After several months of work on the proposal to reinstate the unofficial College tradition , a group of students led by Colin Treseler '09 was ultimately told that Tubestock could not take place due to safety concerns. SEAD graduates 29 high schoolers

Entering to the cheers and applause of their mentors, academic coaches and other staff members, 29 student participants in Summer Enrichment at Dartmouth closed out their three-week stay at the College as part of Friday's graduation ceremony. SEAD, a mentoring program for high school students from under-resourced rural and urban schools throughout the country, brings students to Dartmouth over the course of three consecutive summers for college preparation activities and courses. Union members convene, protest

"When I'm president, unions will have their voices heard," Gov. Bill Richardson said. "I will appoint a union member as my Secretary of Labor." Richardson, the democratic presidential hopeful for the 2008 election from New Mexico, visited Hanover to speak to members of the Service Employees International Union at their Summer Labor Studies Institute on Saturday. In his speech, Richardson pledged continued support of organized labor if elected president. More »

Tibetan monks create sand mandala in Collis

The world-renowned monks, or lamas, of Tibet's Drepung Loseling Monastery performed many of their ancient rituals at various events this weekend as part of Dartmouth's annual Sophomore Family Weekend. The monks directed a number of workshops in community sand mandala painting, in addition to performing their famed multiphonic temple music and masked dances to an audience of community members, students and visitors. Hanover's StreetFest draws crowds

Students, community members and even visiting parents explored Hanover's array of businesses, organizations and artisans during the annual StreetFest on Saturday. Despite overcast skies and sporadic showers, the crowd on South Main Street enjoyed booths hosted by local food vendors, merchant, live music, street performers, craft displays and information tables from a number of organizations. Greeks welcome new puppies for summer

As many Greek-affiliated sophomore students move out of College residence halls and into their respective Greek organizations, some are taking advantage of the newfound opportunity to welcome new and furry members into their homes.
