Of the 26 alumni running to be members and officers of the executive committee of the Dartmouth Association of Alumni, five graduated from the College within the past seven years. Several of these young alumni said they hope to lend a “new perspective” to the association and to address the current debate over alumni governance.

When Colleen Kinneen ‘07 realized she could help another student get a college education, she knew she had to do something. So this fall, Kinneen created Project Nicaragua, a fundraising group which sponsors Nicaraguan college students.

The lack of a clean water source in Kipingi, a small town in southwestern Kenya, requires women and children to walk several kilometers to the nearest water pump. At times, children have been forced to drop out of school to provide water for their families. Those unwilling to spend this time retrieving water dig holes to create their own “wells” in the village, which can easily become contaminated, making conditions such as diarrhea commonplace throughout the town.

Each year at Dartmouth, several student organizations go through the grueling process of obtaining College funding. Most find their niche within the Tucker Foundation or the Council on Student Organizations. Some organizations, such as the “Let’s Get Ready” program, are unable to receive funding from the College.
