Changing the climate of debate

The discussion sponsored by the Sexual Assault Awareness Program and the Afro-American Society on Wednesday night provided a forum for constructive and introspective dialogue about the presence and effects of racism and sexism in rap lyrics.Participants bypassed the Don Imus controversy to critically evaluate the underlying issues and their potential solutions. The consensus reached at the end of the discussion demonstrates that even students with disparate views were able to find common ground on a contentious issue. More »

Updating the Second Amendment

Albert Camus once wrote a short story, and then an expanded play, entitled “The Misunderstanding.” In this story — the plots of the play and short story are identical — a boy becomes estranged from his mother and sister in a rural town somewhere. And to make a short story shorter, the man comes back years later a big success, with great riches to bestow upon his estranged and poor family — bringing his wife and children along with him. More »
