Kristof details Darfur genocide

New York Times columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas Kristof retold stories of the brutality of the Darfur genocide before an over-capacity crowd in Filene Auditorium Tuesday night. With images of the victims flashing behind him, Kristof asserted that the Sudanese government is complicit in the tragedy and called upon the developed world to intervene. More »

Ex-Middlebury president: lower drinking age to 18

As part of his campaign to reduce the legal drinking age to 18, John McCardell, former president of Middlebury College, has launched a non-profit organization to raise awareness about the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption. He brought his campaign to Hanover on Tuesday when he sat down with a group of 15 leaders within the Greek community and one Drug and Alcohol Peer Advisor at EBAs to discuss these issues. More »

N.H. Supreme Court tosses out alum’s lawsuit

A lawsuit brought by John MacGovern ‘80 against the Dartmouth Association of Alumni was dismissed by the New Hampshire Supreme Court in an April 18 order. The lawsuit originated from MacGovern’s claim that the 420 proxy votes he collected on behalf of other alumni for a 2005 officer election should be counted. More »

__April 18, 10:42 a.m., South Park Street__ A Hanover High School student attempted to steal one bottle of Glaceau vitamin water and one package of sugar cookies from the Hanover Co-op. A store employee spotted the 15-year-old male outside of the store after he had smuggled the items by hiding them under his sweatshirt. The teenager was brought down to the station, arrested and released to his parents. More »
