Jean Kim, a former dean at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., is one of at least four finalists in the search for Dartmouth’s next Dean of the College, having visited campus last week for meetings. During her tenure at Puget Sound, Kim had a reputation of being highly engaged with students and administrators, though some student leaders noted a perception on campus that she was “disconnected.” Kim resigned from Puget Sound in November for “personal reasons.” More »
Growing up, Jeffrey Koh ‘09 had public speaking problems. As a child he was “the shy kid” who listened more than he talked. Dragged into the debate team in middle school, he was repeatedly outmanoeuvered in debates. But once students from a local girls’ school started teasing him about his performance in a debate, Koh decided his speech skills needed improvement and he worked to become a better public speaker. Kappa Kappa Kappa fraternity hosted a panel discussion on the Greek system and sexual assault featuring five members from Dartmouth’s Greek houses Monday night as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week. The panel aimed to openly address the Greek system’s responsibilities in responding to issues of sexual assault and in creating safer social spaces for women on campus, according to Tri-Kap member and event organizer Ian Tapu ‘08. The Green Key Society extended an open invitation to the Class of 2009 for its winter social Monday evening at the home of acting Dean of the College Dan Nelson ‘75. Approximately 20 sophomores attended the event, which was intended to educate rising juniors about how to become involved in Green Key and how membership serves the College. More »
