It was almost 10 minutes into ESPNU’s broadcast of Saturday’s match-up between Dartmouth and No. 6 Duke, and there was still no mention of the Big Green as Duke’s opponent. Instead, it was a reel of one feel-good video clip after another as ESPNU previewed the Blue Devils first game since its much-anticipated 2006 season was canceled following rape allegations.

Dartmouth’s men’s basketball team split its weekend home stand, taking the Friday night decision 53-43 against the Princeton Tigers before dropping a Saturday night thriller 80-78 to the University of Pennsylvania Quakers on Senior Night. Saturday marked the final home game for captain Jason Meyer ‘06 and leading scorer Leon Pattman ‘07.

The word “dream” keeps popping up to describe the Dartmouth ski team’s season. The Big Green closed out the carnival season at Middlebury this past weekend, floating past the competition once again. With the win, Dartmouth completes the season undefeated. The team also brought home the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Championship, a first for Dartmouth in 25 years.

The Dartmouth women’s tennis team stomped both the University of Massachusetts and the University of Minnesota this weekend at home in the Boss Tennis Center. The Big Green beat both the Minutewomen and the Golden Gophers 4-3.

The Dartmouth women’s hockey team started its postseason this weekend with a hard-fought best-of-three series victory over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers. Katie Weatherston ‘06 led the way for the Big Green on Friday by tallying four goals in the 6-3 opening game victory. In game two, Dartmouth had trouble finding the net until the Big Green pulled away in the third period for the 3-1 victory to end the series.

For the first time since 1980, the Dartmouth men’s hockey team captured a share of the Ivy League title on Friday evening with a 5-1 rout of No. 16 Cornell at Thompson Arena behind three power play goals. To go along with the Ancient Eight championship, the Big Green secured a first-round bye in the ECACHL playoffs on Sunday by beating Colgate in a tight 3-1 contest on Senior Night.

The Dartmouth women’s basketball team arrived in Princeton, N.J,, on Friday just one game out of first place in the Ivy League and gearing up for what could have been a championship showdown with Harvard on March 6. They left Philadelphia, Penn., Saturday night with almost no hope of a championship, wondering what went wrong.
