Instead of reading about weather in a science textbook, local fourth graders are building their own meteorological instruments to learn about wind’s influence on weather patterns. The students then met with an air-traffic controller at the small-plane Lebanon Airport, where they compared their wind instruments with the airport’s and learned about a real-world importance of wind direction.

Arsenite, a compound commonly used in pesticides and glass production, may counter-intuitively work as a treatment for a rare form of cancer, according to a team of Dartmouth researchers led by Dartmouth Medical School instructor of pharmacology and toxicology Sutisak Kitareewan. In an article published in the Jan. 3 edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the researchers identify a new way by which arsenite, a form of arsenic, can treat acute promyelocytic leukemia by destroying abnormal proteins present within the afflicted cells.

Hanover Police were called when a man entered the back seat of a woman’s car and asked for a ride. Several onlookers assisted in removing him from the car. Police arrested him and identified the suspect as a Dartmouth alumnus, the subject of several student complaints. The man’s last known address was the Shady Lawn Motel in White River Junction.
