With the team entering the midpoint of the season and looking to make a run in the ECAC, the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey team came away from a New York road trip with a 4-1 loss to Union on Friday and a 6-2 win against RPI Saturday evening.

The Dartmouth Skiway has recently named Peter Stransky as the new director of its snowsport school. According to Douglas Holler, the general manager of the Skiway, Stransky will be able to examine the snowsport school with a fresh set of eyes.

Both the men’s and women’s indoor track teams kicked off their seasons on the right foot this weekend at the Dartmouth Invitational held in Leverone Fieldhouse. The Dartmouth Invitational is a three-day meet that features high school athletes and older athletes who compete unattached, in addition to college athletes. The Dartmouth Invitational, one of the biggest meets in New England, is a major early-season meet. Because it was an early-season meet, times did not figure as crucially this weekend as they will at later meets.

The D: How’s the squash team shaping up this year?
JC: We are off to a hot start with a 6-1 record. Last year we finished seventh in the country, and we are looking to replicate or improve on that finish this year. We lost two key starters, but the gaps have been filled by freshmen Mike Shrubb ‘10 and Dan Wagman ‘10.

The Dartmouth women’s hockey team continued to dominate in league play this weekend, as the Big Green steamrolled Quinnipiac 7-0 with five Big Green players scoring and captain Gillian Apps ‘06 netting two goals. The Big Green then faced a tougher Princeton team on Saturday, but still managed to outlast the Tigers 3-1 on a game-winning goal by Katie Gray ‘09.

While the balmy January weather may seem like a gift to many, the Dartmouth ski team is keeping their fingers crossed for cold weather and snow. Present conditions in New Hampshire have forced the ski team to travel the country and Canada in search of snow and training time. By the time the snow flies back East and the carnival season opens on Jan. 19, Dartmouth’s skiers will be ready and waiting.

As the majority the Dartmouth student body headed home for winter break, the Big Green men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams headed to a warmer climate. The swimmers traveled to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the divers spent two weeks in Honolulu.
