To the Editor:

I am writing in response to "Alumni campaign by phone, mass mail" (Oct. 17). I believe your readers will want to consider the following points.

Dartmouth alumni are spread throughout the country and throughout the globe. Numerous communications techniques are needed to reach them -- electronic, print and personal contact. Dartmouth Alumni for Common Sense has reached many thousands of alumni in these ways. Complaints have been less than one percent of those contacted, but we take all concerns seriously. We are very pleased by the extremely positive response we have received from the vast majority of alumni who understand why a "yes" vote will keep Dartmouth strong.

It is clear that alumni participation in this process will surpass all expectations. And that is good news for everyone.
