Versatile Big Green athletes balance commitments on and off the field

By Matthew Mackey, The Dartmouth Staff

Think it’s tough being a varsity athlete at Dartmouth, trying to balance athletics and education and still fit the rest of your life in there too? Could you imagine having twice the commitment of a Division I sport, and still managing life as a student? More »

Football fails in bid for first victory of season at Penn

By Andrew Sloan, The Dartmouth Staff

They call Philadelphia “The City of Brotherly Love.” So it came as no surprise that when Jason Bash ‘06 trotted out onto the fabled Franklin Field against the University of Pennsylvania Quakers (2-1, 1-0 Ivy) on Saturday, some of the Penn fans gave him a standing ovation. Bash, returning from an ankle sprain that has sidelined him for the beginning of this season, was the Big Green’s leading rusher in 2005, and is expected to help carry the load for Dartmouth (0-3, 0-1 Ivy) on the ground this season. One on One

My varsity letter sweater is in my room at home. I’m quite proud of it. I had visions of wearing it at a far-off reunion, but I got a medium, and the Food Court Philly cheesesteak is working diligently to make that decision a regrettable one. I walked on to the golf team at the beginning of sophomore year, and making the team was a pretty big accomplishment for me. Unfortunately, no one else seems to care. More »

Men’s soccer continues to struggle

By Nedko Kyuchukov, The Dartmouth Staff

Last year’s Ivy champion, Dartmouth, has experienced a rough start to this season, winning only two of its first eight games and managing to score only six goals thus far. Saturday’s game against Princeton seemed like a good opportunity to get back on track, as the Big Green traveled to Lourie-Love Field in New Jersey, where the hosts were winless against Dartmouth since 1994. Women’s soccer defeats Princeton, still undefeated in league

By Jennifer Yu, The Dartmouth Staff

An Emily Tracy ‘07 goal in the 39th minute of play was enough to lift Dartmouth women’s soccer to the top of the Ivy League as the Big Green (6-3-1, 2-0 Ivy) rolled over Princeton (4-4-1, 0-2 Ivy) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Lourie-Love Field. More »

The Dartmouth’s official MLB postseason predictions

By Evan J. Meyerson, The Dartmouth Staff

The MLB playoffs are upon us, and what better way is there to greet the fall classic than with some prophetic predictions? At midseason I wrote a column forecasting award-winners and playoff participants. Awards aside, as the last day of the regular season begins, I find myself three for four in playoff teams for each league. More »

Field Hockey beats Penn at home

By Jordan Rose, The Dartmouth Staff

Co-captain Whitney Waugh ‘08 and Stef Miller ‘09 scored nearly 30 seconds apart in the first half and the Big Green defense held off two corners in the waning moments of the second half to lead the Dartmouth field hockey team over the University of Pennsylvania, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field in Hanover.
