On second vote, IFC denies AEPi support

The Interfraternity Council voted Thursday night for the second time not to grant the national Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi official sponsorship. The IFC had previously rejected AEPi sponsorship during Winter term, but decided to give AEPi another chance at sponsorship because “they had been doing a pretty good job towards satisfying the criteria for us to recognize them,” IFC President Alex Lentz ‘07 said. Dean of upperclassmen search yields no results

Students volunteer for Summer Special Olympics

Econ majors attend D.C. conference

Three Dartmouth economics majors attended the Carroll Round last weekend, a conference on international economics held at Georgetown University. At the conference, Evgeniya Petrova ‘06, Austin Vedder ‘06 and Dan Kurland ‘06 presented papers they had written in their international economics seminar taught by professor Nancy Marion. More »

Undergrads build hybrid race car

A team of students at the Thayer School of Engineering hosted Formula Hybrid, the first collegiate car race to use only hybrid and electric vehicles, at the New Hampshire International Speedway on Thursday.   • The 28th annual Festival of New Music will take place at Dartmouth beginning this Saturday. More »
  • “The festival began in part as a reaction to student requests to include more courses devoted to music composition and performance as opposed to music appreciation and analysis,” festival co-director Ryan Berger ‘04 said. More »
  • This year the festival’s theme is “Orchestras of Sameness.” The theme was inspired by the Princeton Laptop Orchestra, PLOrk, which is a group of 15 Princeton University students who sit on pillows and perform using laptop computers surrounded by hemispherical speakers and control devices.   • In keeping with the theme, the festival organizers tried to invite other performers who would also combine similar instruments to create unique music. More »
  • “In the festival you will hear this idea of sameness through string quartets, violin duets and even in ensembles that bring together instruments from the farthest ends of the orchestra,” coordinator Katey Blumenthal ‘06 said. More »
