To the Editor:

I want to commend the sports writer ("Apathy and complaints: the failure of Dartmouth sports fans," March 1) on his insightful comments re Dartmouth athletics.

I, as a former two-sport varsity athlete (albeit at Middlebury) know all too well the sacrifices that college athletes must make. Dartmouth students should know that their college has a top-flight athletics program that should be supported by all interested students, and not denigrated by uninformed souls.

Thank you, Dartmouth, for providing me and my family with hours of enjoyable spectating.
