Dartmouth women’s basketball team has not won a game against Brown (15-8, Ivy 9-1) on the Bears’ home court in more than five years. And on Saturday, Brown ruined the Big Green’s perfect conference record for the second consecutive year as Dartmouth failed to put the ball in the basket enough and walked away with its first loss of the season.

As Ted Ligety stood atop the podium in Torino, the shadow he cast in the spotlight fell on more than the Croatian to his left and the Austrian to his right. Seven thousand miles away, Charly Ligety ‘09 watched his brother become an Olympic champion in the men’s combined downhill from his dorm room in the River. A skier at Dartmouth, Charly’s alpine success will now be measured against an Olympic champion.

After finishing third in every Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association carnival this year, Dartmouth’s ski team improved with a second place showing at the Williams Carnival. The University of Vermont won with 775 points, while Dartmouth took second with 716.5, just one point ahead of third place Middlebury.

Dartmouth men’s (Pain Train) and women’s (Princess Layout) ultimate Frisbee teams went to Las Vegas, Nev., over Winter Carnival weekend to play in Trouble in Vegas, a tournament featuring some of the top collegiate teams in the country. Overall, 64 men’s and 32 women’s programs competed.

Dartmouth’s men’s basketball team (5-18, Ivy 3-7) had not scored two consecutive victories this season, but that all changed this weekend during a thrilling two game homestand. Dartmouth first downed Yale (13-11, Ivy 5-4) with a 72-64 and then took out Brown (8-15, Ivy 4-6) 58-46.
