To the Editor:

Thanks so much for addressing the issue of sexual assault in the Nov. 21 issue of The Dartmouth. In the event you might have another opportunity to write on the subject, I wanted to stress a point that I probably did not adequately address in our previous contacts. While I have no idea how many actual assaults there are on campus, the numbers represented in the Sexual Abuse Awareness Program statistics are surely only a small percentage of the actual assaults occurring on campus. Any study that has ever been done has shown that very few survivors ever report. The SAAP numbers may represent as little as 5 percent or 10 percent of the assaults actually perpetrated.
